Brake binding, brake sticking, or brake locking on when the brake pedal is released
One of the common faults experienced by BMW 1 Series (F20, F21) owners is brake binding, brake sticking, or brake locking. This issue is often caused by a malfunctioning ATE MK100 ABS Pump. When the ATE MK100 ABS Pump fails, it can cause the brake caliper pistons or brake pads to not retract properly, leading to brake binding or brake sticking. This excessive friction results in increased wear and tear on the brake components.
The fault causes the brake calipers to remain at pressure when the pedal is depressed, which can lead to brake locking. This can be particularly dangerous as it may cause the wheels to remain locked unexpectedly, reducing control and safety. Ensuring your BMW 1 Series (F20/F21) is free from brake binding, brake sticking, or brake locking issues related to the ATE MK100 ABS Pump is crucial for safe driving.
When driving a BMW 1 Series, you may encounter an issue where the brakes are automatically applied when the windshield wipers are active. This can lead to situations where the vehicle slows down significantly without the driver pressing the brake pedal. This phenomenon, often referred to as brake sticking, brake locking on, or brake binding, can be quite alarming. The problem is usually related to the ABS pump, which might malfunction and cause the brakes to engage unexpectedly.
