Brake Binding

Service Brake Binding

If you're grappling with service brake binding issues, a malfunctioning ABS Pump could be the likely culprit. Brake binding arises when the braking pressure, applied to the brake caliper, isn't adequately released by the ABS Pump upon depressing the brake pedal. At VCUS, we specialize in comprehensive testing, pinpointing the root cause of ABS Pump failure, and proficiently rebuilding the unit. Our services feature a friendly and competitively priced approach, boasting a swift 24-48 hour turnaround time. Upon completion of your ABS Pump rebuild, you'll receive a detailed written report, and we stand behind our work with an unlimited mileage lifetime warranty. Symptoms of Front Brake Binding and Rear Brake Binding

Brake binding occurs when the brake components fail to release properly. This could be caused by the ABS Pump holding the brake fluid pressure to the brake caliper, resulting in excessive friction and potential safety issues. Recognizing the symptoms of brake binding is crucial for prompt identification and resolution. Here are common symptoms associated with brake binding:

MOT Failure: A binding brake can lead to an MOT failure due to potential braking imbalance and lower braking efficiency, increasing stopping distances and potentially causing the vehicle to swerve or become or become immobile.

Increased Brake Temperature: Excessive heat around the affected wheel, noticeable through touch or a burning smell after driving, may indicate brake binding.

Uneven Brake Pad Wear: Inspection of the brake pads may reveal uneven wear patterns, suggesting that the brakes are not releasing properly.

Vehicle Pulling to One Side: The vehicle may pull to one side during braking or regular driving, indicating uneven braking forces caused by brake binding.

Reduced Fuel Efficiency: Brake binding can lead to increased resistance, causing decreased fuel efficiency. A sudden drop in MPG (Miles Per Gallon) may be a sign of brake issues.

Squeaking or Grinding Noises: Unusual sounds like squeaking, grinding, or scraping during braking or while driving could indicate worn or binding brake components.

Vibration or Shudder: Vibrations or a shuddering sensation through the steering wheel or brake pedal while braking may suggest uneven braking forces.

Dragging Sensation: A feeling of the vehicle dragging or resisting acceleration when not actively braking may be a sign of binding brakes.

Excessive Brake Dust: An accumulation of brake dust around the affected wheel could indicate increased friction and wear due to brake binding.

Visible Smoke or Steam: In extreme cases, visible smoke or steam emanating from the wheel area may indicate severe brake binding and overheating.

ABS Warning Light: The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) warning light may illuminate on the dashboard if the ABS is contributing to the binding issue.
